Despite wanting to continue his career in the NBA this season, Dwight Howard was unfortunately unable to find a team interested in his services. That led him to do something that so many former stars have done to extend their careers. He headed to Asia to keep his career going.

Stephon Marbury, Tracy McGrady and Gilbert Arenas all found success playing in China after their time in the NBA had seemed to wind down.

Now the 5x All-NBA First Teamer/Masked Singer contestant has made his debut for the Taoyuan Leopards in Taiwan and it appears that he is also going to enjoy plenty of success.

In his first game in his new league, Howard absolutely dominated, scoring 38 points, grabbing 25 rebounds, and dishing out 9 assists.

It looks like Howard wants to show off some new skills while playing in Taiwan. Howard was never known as a 3-point shooter during his time in the NBA and the fact that he shot 20% from 3 in this game is a reminder of why.

The 10 3s he attempted in this game were more than he attempted in all but 2 full seasons in the NBA. The only 2 full seasons where he attempted more were the last 2 of his NBA career, where he attempted 15 and 20.

The near triple-double was also a pretty big change of pace for Howard. While he has had plenty of games in his career where he racked up points and boards, he only averaged 1.3 assists per game throughout his career. He only had one career triple-double in the NBA and it came over a decade ago.

With dominant performances like this and the opportunity to show off some facets of his game that he didn’t use much in the NBA, it seems like Dwight Howard is going to enjoy this next chapter in his career.
