Dylan Raiola Actually Showed Admirable Humility In First Year As Backup Quarterback Despite Nebraska Insult

Dylan Raiola went extremely viral with his comments that compared Oregon to Nebraska, and rightfully so. Even though he did not say anything that is not true, he did not say goodbye to the Cornhuskers before he indirectly spoke down on them.

It was not great for the optics.

However, one of the most polarizing players in college football actually showed a lot of humility during his first official press conference as a member of the Ducks. Assuming Dante Moore can stay healthy, this year as a backup will be great for his ego.

Dylan Raiola accidentally dissed Nebraska.

As a former five-star recruit, there was a lot of hype surrounding the arrival of Dylan Raiola to the University of Nebraska. The top-ranked quarterback was supposed to bring the Cornhuskers back to a state of relevance.

That is not quite what happened. Raiola went 13-9 in two seasons as the starter. He completed 69% of his passes for 4,819 yards and 31 touchdowns with 17 interceptions. His sophomore year was better than his first but it did not quite live up to expectations.

To make matters worse, Raiola suffered a broken leg and decided to hit the transfer portal in January. Nebraska fans were disappointed with how it all went down. At no point did he issue a statement to his former program. There was no goodbye.

The snub might’ve stemmed from how things went down over his last few months in Lincoln. Nebraska fired his uncle as the offensive line coach. The Cornhuskers did not engage in a bidding war. They essentially allowed him to walk.

One (or both) of those things might’ve upset Raiola to the point that he did not feel obligated to say thank you for the memories. I don’t know.

Regardless of the reason, Raiola’s lack of farewell address made his recent comments about Oregon sound like a diss at Nebraska. The internet ran wild. Talking heads were talking. Headlines were everywhere.

Oregon’s new quarterback showed the utmost humility in his new role.

The reaction to Dylan Raiola’s comments about Oregon compared to Nebraska was completely fair. He set himself up for hate with the radio silence on his way out of Lincoln.

However, the 21-year-old rising junior must take a big step back in 2026. Dante Moore is the incumbent starting quarterback for the Ducks. Raiola, who is still recovering from the injury that ended last season early, will serve as the backup for the first time in his entire football career. He has never not been QB1.

Although it will be an adjustment, it does not seem like a concern. Raiola is willing to sacrifice for the greater good.
