Hubert Davis’s time in Chapel Hill appears to be coming to an end. A recent update on his future with the North Carolina basketball program is ominous.
Most believe that Davis has coached his last game for the Tar Heels. His son, Elijah, fueled the narrative with his latest social media activity.
Will the head coach be fired? It seems UNC is preparing to move on.
North Carolina is postponing Hubert Davis’s job duties.
His final radio show of the season was pushed this week, igniting a firestorm of speculation. Now, his exit interviews with players have been postponed.

Davis was scheduled to meet with team members, families, and agents this Tuesday. Those discussions likely would’ve related to future NIL contracts to determine which players would return and which would test the market.
It seems UNC is saving those talks for the next hire.
The overwhelming belief is that Davis is out. The fanbase wants him gone. He has not met expectation.
That feeling, according to one insider, might be mutual. Davis may be content with banking his $5 million buyout to leave a job he never wanted. A split seems imminent.
With that said, athletic director Bubba Cunningham refuses to provide confirmation. Instead, he’s dragging the process out, possibly to buy time for a coach still competing in the NCAA Tournament.
Whatever the case, the latest update on Hubert Davis does not bode well for his chances of returning to the sidelines. His son’s recent social media activity added to the drama.

At the time of this writing, Davis, a senior walk-on for the Tar Heels, has just one post on his IG profile (he’s since added three more).
He scrubbed previous photos related to North Carolina basketball. That includes his transfer announcement from this past offseason.
The timeline for that cleanse isn’t completely clear. I, personally, do not follow Elijah Davis. I have not been up to date on his social media activity. It would seem reasonable that the scrub came this week given the recent storyline surrounding his father.
Davis also posted a cryptic spiritual message hinting at potential turbulence.

Update: Hubert Davis has been fired.
Elijah Davis posted an update to his social media page after the fact. That post included a photo of him and his dad on the court in Chapel Hill.
North Carolina has been erased from the front of his jersey. A caption to the photo read, “right where we need to be. it’s His plan and His plan only.”
Elijah Davis’s tenure with North Carolina basketball is over. His dad’s is, too. Hubert Davis will collect his $5 million buyout.
The Tar Heels will now look ahead to finding a replacement.
