The Maryland Terrapins student section sits empty amid a 54-3 blowout loss to the UCLA Bruins on Sept. 26, 2026.
The Mike Locksley Era at Maryland appears to be coming to a crashing thud after a 54-3 home loss at the hands of the UCLA Bruins on Saturday in College Park.
But the loss wasn’t the worst part of the day. Maryland fans had already begun to turn on Locksley, who is just 39-51 over eight-plus seasons, even prior to Saturday’s game against the Bruins.
However, by the end of the game, it was abundantly clear that Terrapins fans were begging for a change. The stands at SECU Stadium were completely empty, with reporters able to count the number of fans remaining in the stands.

Mike Locksley Doesn’t Have The Answers For Maryland Football
After the game, Locksley took full responsibility for the loss.
“There’s not a lot of messaging when the score is the way it was today — that thing snowballed on us,” Locksley said. “The message is: The only thing we can do is look, first and foremost, at ourselves, me, as the leader of this thing, each player, the accountability I know they understand.”
But he feels he still deserves a chance to turn things around.
“I still have a lot of confidence in myself and the staff to get this thing fixed,” he added. “That will have to be earned; I won’t be able to claim it. I understand why people have to sit and question it, but I’m going to have to earn it. I’m not going to be able to claim it up here.”
There’s just one problem. Locksley has been saying the same thing for years.

Baltimore Sun reporter Taylor Lyons called him on that fact earlier this week, and Locksley was unable to answer. Meanwhile, it seems as if Maryland has no choice but to make a change. Because it doesn’t look like things could possibly get any worse than they are now.
