On Monday many Instagram/Twitter users, have been flooding social media with images of black squares for “Blackout Tuesday” as a show of solidarity with the black community and protests over racial injustice.

Several NFL teams joined in on the Blackout Tuesday trend including the San Francisco 49ers who posted a black box with “Black Lives Matter” caption.

Former San Francisco 49ers safety and current free agent Eric Reid took offense to the Niners using the “Blackout Tuesday” hashtag on social media. Reid blasted the team he feels took part in blackballing Colin Kaepernick from the NFL as punishment for taking a knee to protest police brutality during games.

Reid has been critical of 49ers owner Jed York, who donated money earlier this week to local and national organizations “creating change” within the black community.

Reid wasn’t the only one to call out the Niners for using the Blackout Tuesday black box.
