Erling Haaland unintentionally recreated an iconic LeBron James meme during Norway’s loss to England at the World Cup.

The moment came after a controversial play that many have called greedy on social media. That mishap sparked a firestorm of backlash from viewers.

Could he have the moment back, Alexander Sorloth probably would’ve done things differently. His decision making might’ve cost his country victory.

Sorloth criticized after the loss.

Norway lost to England, 2-1. The setback officially ended the nation’s World Cup stay. The Norwegians had become fan favorites with their advancement in the tournament. Erling Haaland played a large role.

Casual fans not previously familiar with Haaland got their introduction this summer. He was a breakout star for Team Norway amid a surprising run.

The Norwegians advanced to the Round of Eight with a win over powerhouse Brazil. There, they’d face another championship contender in England on Saturday. Fans hoped to see another upset. Things appeared to be trending in that direction.

Norway struck first with a goal in the 36th minute. They then had a chance to go up 2-0 on a two versus one advantage in the 43rd minute.

Alexander Sorloth dribbled as Erling Haaland trailed behind a defender. A passing lane appeared to open up to give Haaland a shot attempt. Sorloth, instead, kept the ball and took the shot himself. His try was easily nabbed by the goalkeeper. England would score a few minutes later to even the score.

Haaland was visibly frustrated on the pitch. English defender John Stones played it perfectly. The window was small, but it was there.

Sorloth received tons of hate in the moments that followed. A goal could’ve changed the game. While the play had most viewers miffed, it did produce a comical image that’s since circulated social media.

In Game 1 of the 2018 NBA Finals, the Cleveland Cavaliers took on the Golden State Warriors. In the final moments, JR Smith forgot the score.

He thought the Cavs were up after a missed free throw. The score was tied. He ran out the clock to prevent the team from getting a game-winning shot off. Cleveland would later lose in overtime.

An image of LeBron James throwing his hands in disgust quickly flooded social media. Erling Haaland had a similar reaction to Sorloth’s refusal to pass the ball.

While Norway’s time at the World Cup has ended, Haaland’s response will live on forever.
