Thousands upon thousands of Tunisian soccer fans completely took over Nashville for the ES Tunis group stage match against LAFC at the Club World Cup. Do not tell them the tournament does not mean anything.

I have never seen anything like it!

The rowdy bunch of soccer fanatics arrived to Music City on Thursday and immediately started to party. They did not stop until the early hours of Sunday morning. Lower Broadway was rendered completely useless when the party spilled out into the streets. It actually became a safety hazard that led to multiple arrests.

Espérance Sportive de Tunis is more commonly known as Esperance Tunis, ES Tunis or just EST. The Tunisian professional soccer club was founded in 1919 in the Bab Souika neighborhood of Tunis, the capital city of Tunisia. It has competed in the Tunisian Professional League 1 continuously since 1936 with a record 34 league titles, a record 16 Tunisian Cup titles and a record seven Tunisian Super Cup titles. It hopes to add a Club World Cup title to that resume later this summer!

The Club World Cup was an overwhelming disappointment in terms of attendance during the early going. However, the scenes across the United States on Friday evening were electric.

Flamengo went wild at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.

Boca turned Hard Rock Stadium in Miami into ‘La Bombonera North.’

And then there was Nashville. No less than 5,000 ES Tunis fans completely shut down Lower Broadway on Thursday night.

It was insane. Hundreds of cars were stuck in the street with nowhere to go. Non-soccer tourists were forced to hunker down in the bars to avoid the madness.

At least two men were arrested because their use of fireworks became dangerous to pedestrians.

Friday was just as insane. ES Tunis supporters arrived to Geodis Park after a long day of drinking at the Honky Tonks as soon as the gates opened.

The Tunisians were in full voice more than an hour before kickoff.

They stayed just as loud throughout the full 101-minute match. The announced attendance for the Club World Cup match between ES Tunis and LAFC was approximately 13,000. I would guess at least 8,000 were in support of the Tunisian side. Probably more. Their chants could be heard more than one mile away from the stadium— no exaggeration.

To make the takeover even more fun, ES Tunis defeated LAFC to advance to the knockout round on this penalty save in the 101st minute:

The Tunisian fans went bonkers.

It was pure jubilation.

The party immediately spilled out into the rotunda after the players left the pitch.

Of course, ES Tunis fans finished the night back out on Broadway.

Other than when Taylor Swift came to Nashville for the Eras Tour, I have not seen one singular group of people takeover the city like Esperance Tunis. The Club World Cup may not matter to the American clubs or the American fans but the Tunisians are all-in.
