ESPN NFL Analyst Matt Miller Provides Update After Suffering ‘Life-Saving’ Amputation Due To Car Crash

ESPN NFL analyst Matt Miller suffered multiple injuries in a serious car accident last week in his home state of Missouri. On Tuesday, he provided an update on his condition, and it included news that he had to have a “life-saving” amputation due to the crash.

Miller was involved in a crash on U.S. Route 50 near Smithton, Missouri. Missouri State Highway Patrol said a semi-truck hit Miller’s SUV head-on after he crossed the centerline. The semi driver was not injured.

Images shared by KOAN News showed the extensive damage his vehicle sustained on the driver’s side. Emergency personnel airlifted Miller, who had suffered severe injuries, to Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Missouri, following the accident.

“Last week, I was involved in a serious car accident in Missouri and was airlifted to Mercy Hospital. I’m deeply grateful for the exceptional care I have received, from the first responders to the doctors, nurses and medical staff. I’m incredibly fortunate to be writing this,” Matt Miller wrote on Tuesday.

“As a result of the accident, I sustained significant injuries, including multiple fractures and broken ribs. I also underwent a life-saving amputation of my left arm. While I have a long road ahead, I’m focused on my recovery and taking things one day at a time,” he continued.

“Thank you for the overwhelming support, prayers and kind messages — they have meant so much to me and my family during this time.

“I look forward to continuing my recovery and getting back to ESPN to talk football, including what should be an exciting 2027 NFL Draft class.”

Miller has worked for ESPN since 2021 as part of the network’s NFL’s Draft coverage. He has also appeeared on ESPN+, NFL Live, SportsCenter, Get Up! and ESPN Radio, as well as for draft and mock-draft specials.
