ESPN’s College Football-Themed Tux Collection Is Awful If You’re a Michigan St. Fan

If it weren’t bad enough that the 4-team college football playoff takes place on New Year’s Eve — thanks again, Rose Bowl! — ESPN has gone ahead and unveiled team-oriented tuxedos to suit the special occasion.

“This New Year’s Eve, we want you to dress for football, but we want you to do it in style,” says Emeka Ofodile, senior director of marketing at ESPN. “And we’re doing it in a way that celebrates your school and celebrates college football.”

Sounds great. Unless you’re a Michigan State fan. In which case, you’ll look like a snooty band member looking for his hat. And yes, I can see where sporting epaulettes would be ironically hilarious and probably end up being the hit of the party. But don’t fool yourself into believing that was the intention of this butcher job.

Having said that, the Oklahoma tux is sublime.

According to ESPN’s press release, a total of 10 tuxedos from each school have been made and will be awarded in time for New Year’s Eve. All you need to do is enter at GenerationTux.com/ESPN. In another ironic twist, I have already entered and fully plan on winning one.
