Former Michigan defensive tackle Mazi Smith was an absolute superstar in his four years with the Wolverines.
After redshirting in 2019 and an up-and-down 2020 season, Smith became a starter in 2021 and eventually blossomed into a first-team All-Big Ten selection in 2022. Months later, he was a first-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys.
Smith’s first year in Dallas was a struggle, however, and now he finds himself under the microscope even further after an unknowing mishap involving a Michigan playbook.

Mazi Smith Accidentally Sold Michigan Playbook In Unused Storage Unit
TikTok user @VBroadwayFinds is a reseller who purchases storage units and then resells the contents. He’s basically the show Storage Wars, but for Gen Z.
Broadway posted a video Friday morning showing a storage unit he purchased after seeing a bunch of team-issued Michigan Football gear.
He shows off several pairs of cleats before pointing out that one of the items in the storage unit was a defensive playbook from the 2022 Michigan Wolverines team.
Yikes.
Now, playbooks and terminology change regularly. And former Michigan defensive coordinator Jesse Minter has since followed Jim Harbaugh to the Los Angeles Chargers. So the playbook likely wouldn’t serve much purpose to any team hoping to gain inside information.
But that’s still not the type of thing you imagine that Michigan wants just floating around out there.
Coincidentally, the storage locker also featured a giant gun safe. Which is notable due to the fact that Smith was arrested for possessing an illegally concealed firearm during his senior year with the Wolverines.
Other items in the unit included several boxes of legos, high-end clothing and accessories, and an absurd amount of Michigan gear.
Broadway claims he paid $1,880 for the unit. But the contents well exceed that in value.
We can only imagine what it may have been worth had that playbook still been useful to one of Michigan’s rivals.
