The Carolina Panthers selected Bryce Young as the No. 1 overall pick. The decision to choose the Heisman Trophy winner appears to be paying off already, as Young has been making a strong impression on the coaching staff and his teammates.
According to insider Jeremy Fowler on ESPN’s “Get Up,” Young’s mental abilities have been nothing short of extraordinary, leading some to dub him a “Mental savant.”
Fowler disclosed that an NFC executive had made this claim about Young, highlighting the quarterback’s exceptional mental aptitude.
Fowler: “I was told his mental aptitude has been as advertised. That’s what he was known for during the draft process, as a mental savant. I was told with the Panthers’ offense is a hard install. It’s got shades of the Los Angeles Rams system from new offensive coordinator Thomas Brown.”
“No new quarterback bats 100 in learning it in the first month, but I was told he was pretty darn close to 100%. So, the Panthers really believe that as long as he has command of the offense, they’re in good shape. They don’t need him to be a hero because this is a really good emerging roster.”
Young has taken on the task with great determination and has reportedly excelled during the initial stages of installing the offensive system. While it is common for quarterbacks to face a learning curve, Young has impressively neared a perfect understanding of the intricate scheme within the first month.
The Panthers’ coaching staff has tremendous confidence in his ability to command the offense effectively.
The Panthers’ belief in Young’s mental acuity is a testament to their overall faith in their young quarterback. Rather than placing unrealistic expectations on him to carry the team single-handedly, the organization acknowledges the strength of their emerging roster.
They recognize that as long as Young can master the offensive playbook and execute the game plan, the team will be in an excellent position to succeed.
