According to numerous reports, Baker Mayfield’s day as a Cleveland Browns quarterback may be numbered.

The Browns are reportedly exploring the possibility of trading Mayfield four years after they selected him with the first pick in the NFL Draft.

Mayfield, who finished the 2021 season with a poor 83.1 passer rating, is due $18.858 million in fully guaranteed salary in 2022 and is coming off surgery for a torn labrum in his non-throwing shoulder.

One potential replacement for Baker Mayfield in Cleveland that is getting a lot of mention is current Houston Texans’ quarterback Deshaun Watson.

It was reported that Cleveland planned a meeting to speak with Watson about a potential trade on Tuesday, but the Texans are said to not be interested in getting Mayfield in return as part of a trade.

Watson is due $35 million next season, so the Texans are in dire need of unloading him to another team if they don’t plan on playing him.

One way or another, it would seem highly unlikely that Mayfield returns to Cleveland next season, and it is almost a guarantee that Watson won’t be in Houston.

All of which makes one of Baker Mayfield’s tweets from January 28, 2021 so interesting.

Baker Mayfield fired back at fans on Twitter wanting Deshaun Watson a little over a year ago

Mayfield saw a tweet posted by Dawg Pound Daily at that time which read, “The Cleveland #Browns need to think about Deshaun Watson.”

Baker responded on Twitter with an “okay” emoji and wrote, “Some of y’all ‘browns’ are funny.” He even pinned it for awhile.

Naturally, because it’s the internet, this tweet by Mayfield has been resurfaced and is now getting a lot of play due to the latest news reports.

In fairness, Mayfield probably isn’t the only one in Cleveland regretting a tweet today.

Whoops.
