Fans Commend Zach Wilson For Reportedly Rejecting New York Jets Plan At Quarterback

The New York Jets reportedly want to get back with their ex (starting quarterback).

But Zach Wilson knows his worth and isn’t so sure the relationship deserves a second (or third?) try.

Zach Rosenblatt and Diana Russini of The Athletic report that the Jets want Wilson to start for the team in Week 14, but Wilson isn’t so sure he’s willing to do so.

“The New York Jets are prepared to make another switch at quarterback — but their top choice is reluctant to take on the job,” the article states. “The team is leaning toward turning back to Zach Wilson to start but he is hesitant to step back into the role, multiple team sources said Monday.”

Wilson, the former No. 2 overall pick in the NFL Draft, began the 2023 season as the No. 2 quarterback behind future hall of famer Aaron Rodgers. But when Rodgers tore his achilles in the opening game of the season against the Buffalo Bills, Wilson took over.

He started the next 11 games for the Jets, but was benched for Tim Boyle after repeated struggles.

Surprisingly enough, Boyle was not the answer to New York’s problems. The veteran went just 14-of-25 for 148 yards and an interception in a 13-8 loss to the Atlanta Falcons.

Fellow veteran journeyman Trevor Semian came in off the bench in place of Boyle late in the game. But he too struggled going just 5-of-13 for 66 yards.

Now it appears head coach Robert Saleh is getting (more) desperate. But Wilson doesn’t appear willing to play the role of backup to the backup, and fans are siding with him.

Wilson likely isn’t saving New York’s season either. But it’s easy to see why Saleh wouldn’t want to see anymore of Boyle or Semian.

Meanwhile, former Jet Joe Flacco just threw for 254 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in his first appearance with the Cleveland Browns.

Just sayin’…
