Messi mania has officially hit the Bay Area. On Wednesday, Inter Miami FC faces off against the San Jose Earthquakes and tickets have skyrocketed to $530, with the possibility of watching Messi play.
“This is going to be one of the biggest sporting events we’ve had here in San Jose. It’s a real pleasure to have Messi come. He’s the greatest of all time. And it’s an important game. It’s an important game for the Earthquakes. It’s an important game for Miami,” says Earthquakes president Jared Shawlee.
Even San Jose’s mayor is excited about the prospect of hosting Messi.
“San Jose will be playing host to the biggest sporting events in the world. And having Messi here is a great honor. It allows us to start to get people ready for all that is in store,” says San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan.
On Tuesday, a crowd gathered outside of Messi’s hotel room, and they went wild when the soccer superstar made a brief appearance to acknowledge them.
Fans of Inter Miami CF and Lionel Messi are still gathered outside his hotel, hoping to catch a glimpse of him a day before the match.
