For the first 12 years of the FedEx Cup, the overall prize pool was $35 million with the winner taking home $10 million. This year, not only did the Tour Championship format change with players starting the tournament with different scores, but so did the purse increasing to $60 million with the winner receiving $15 million.
Rory McIlroy hoisted the trophy on Sunday afternoon after an exceptional 66 at East Lake winning the Tour Championship by four shots at 18-under. He becomes just the second player, along with Tiger Woods, to win the FedEx Cup multiple times.
As you can imagine, it was pretty tense even watching the events unfold on Sunday with every shot counting for absolutely absurd amounts of money. At the 18th Brooks Koepka needed an up-and-down to finish in a tie for second, but instead hit a poor chip costing him $1 million.
