Football Field At Brazil’s Stadium Looks Unplayable Ahead Of Ravens-Cowboys Game

The field in the Ravens-Cowboys game could be an issue

Earlier this week, NFLPA President JC Tretter shared concerns about the playing field in Brazil ahead of the Ravens-Cowboys international game.

We’ve been in regular communication with the league about the field. Both the NFLPA’s and the league’s field experts have been on the ground in Brazil for days, monitoring conditions and working to make the surface as safe and playable as possible for Sunday.

Based on our experts’ assessment, the field needed better traction and stability. They recommended reinforced stitching to help the surface hold together and brought in equipment to reinforce as much of the field as possible before the game. Our experts will remain engaged and continue evaluating conditions through kickoff.

On Saturday, journalists got a first look at the field conditions, and they don’t appear to be good.

The NFL insists that the field is good to go and the game will be played.

NFL Field Director Nick Pappas told reporters in Brazil today that there is “no need to worry.” Pappas said he reviewed the playing surface with an independent expert and a representative of the NFL Players Association, and there are no safety concerns.

“We have an independent inspector that comes in, walks with myself, walks with a member of the NFLPA,” Pappas said. “They were here yesterday. Performed that test. Things check out. We’ve made additional improvements to the field that we think were helpful.”

Fans are urging players to speak out ahead of the game.
