The old joke is that defensive backs don’t play wide receiver because they can’t catch, but that may not be the case for Florida sophomore Devin Moore. He might not play receiver because he might not be fast enough…
Kentucky punter Wilson Berry, on the other hand, might deserve an increased role on the offense! At the very least, head coach Mark Stoops should consider getting Berry the ball on a fake. He’s speedy!
Berry, a sophomore, played three years of Australian rules football after high school before making the transition to American football with ProKick Australia, the famous Aussie punter factory that has produced multiple Ray Guy Award winners. The Wildcats love Aussie punters and transitioned to Berry after three seasons with Max Duffy.
Although Berry was not at fault for a blunder during Saturday’s college football game against the Gators, he was the hero on the back end! Moore was on the wrong side of the play and got embarrassed by a punter.
Kentucky lined up for an extra point at the end of the first quarter. The kick was blocked.
Moore scooped up the loose ball in stride and had nothing but open space in front of him. There was no reason that he should not have scored.
Except there was! Berry was hot in pursuit.
As Moore took the ball to the 50, past the 40, he slowed up on the sideline at the 30. Berry, right behind him, was there to make the tackle.
Moore tried to juke Berry out of his shoes, but the punter was not going to let that happen. He laid the lumber and stopped Florida from taking the blocked PAT back for two points.
Tough scenes for the Gators, who failed to get on the board during the first half. Even tougher look for Moore, whose group chat is surely on fire with people roasting him for getting caught by a punter.
At least it was a former Aussie rules punter, not an American punter. But still…
