Florida State basketball has had a difficult season in 2021/22. Although the Seminoles are 13-9 with a chance to make a run and reach the NCAA Tournament, they have been dealing with injuries at every position, but particularly at the four and five spots.

That’s where Harrison Prieto comes in.

Prieto, a 6-foot-8, 230-pound redshirt senior is in his fifth year of eligibility after walking-on to the team in 2017. He is better known by his teammates as ‘The Weatherman’ because that is what he wants to do/be after college.

According to the team website:

“A meteorology graduate student who came to Florida State because of its excellent School of Meteorology at Florida State…excelled at an internship at the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Tallahassee during his collegiate career…appeared on the Weather Channel as a guest of Jim Cantore and Florida State Meteorology alumnus Stephanie Abrams on February 27, 2019…his nickname is “The Weatherman” which he got from former Seminole Assistant Coach Dennis Gates”

He understands that the NBA or playing basketball professionally is not within reach and he has turned his focus to his career outside of the hardwood.

However, on Saturday afternoon, he was a crucial part of Florida State’s game against Wake Forest. Due to the depth issues, Prieto was thrust into a prominent role and became the Seminoles’ sixth-man.

Prieto ended up playing 26 minutes in an eight-point loss, but it might have been a lot worse without him. He went 5-of-9 from the field with 13 points, one assist and two steals. He also pulled down 13 rebounds to secure the first (and likely only) double-double of his career.

Stories like this are what make sports great. The Weatherman was making it rain.
