If you bet the under on the Florida State Seminoles win total in 2024, you didn’t have to sweat out the result for very long.
In fact, you’re probably a good deal richer while you’re reading this as the Noles became the first team in FBS football this year to clinch the under on their projected regular season win total.
Florida State, which entered the season with an over/under win total of 9.5 at most major sportsbooks, lost to the visiting Memphis Tigers on Saturday to drop to 3-0 after a storybook 13-1 season a year ago.
Despite nobody being there to see it, the Noles fell behind 13-3 at the half and 20-3 shortly into the third quarter. FSU scored a late third-quarter touchdown to make it 20-9, but they never really threatened the Tigers, who, to their credit, are a College Football Playoff contender from the Group of Five.
“I do believe that we’re a much better team than what we’re showing. Obviously it still comes down me being able to get that out of these guys and it show up on game day,” Florida State coach Mike Norvell said after the game. “(I’m) Just disappointed that I’ve not been able to get more out of what I believe this team is. You know, going to continue to work at it. I believe in who we have. I believe in what they can do.
“But we got to be able to transition the positive things we see on the practice field. It’s got to be able to translate on to game day.”
Florida State still has plenty of season in front of it. And technically, the CFP is still within reach should the Noles find a way to somehow win an ACC Championship.
But the early returns aren’t giving any indication that that’s something they’re capable of doing.
