Floyd Mayweather Jr. Confirms Talks With Conor McGregor, Says Fight Will ‘Absolutely’ Happen

Floyd Mayweather seems pretty confident that a crossover fight against Conor McGregor will happen. Earlier this month, a rumor spread on the Internet of a possible boxing match between McGregor and Mayweather, which was quickly shot down by UFC president Dana White.

On Friday, Mayweather sat down with Showtime to talk about a potential matchup with McGregor and he confirmed that he was negotiating with MMA superstar

“It’s really not a rumor. The fight (with McGregor) may happen. We really don’t know, as of right now, but do I think the fight will happen? Absolutely.”

During the interview, Mayweather was in full salesman mode trying to sell a fight with McGregor.

So I’m pretty sure it’s going be a tough fight for me. We really don’t know as of right now, but there’s been a lot of talk, and hopefully we can make the fight happen.

“He’s no pushover. One thing about Conor McGregor, he’s no pushover. He fell short in his last bout, but a true champion can always bounce back, so that’s a guy I can’t overlook.

“We haven’t picked a venue, we haven’t talked about money yet.”

Considering that the UFC’s contract with McGregor is rock solid I’m pretty sure that Mayweather is just trolling for attention.
