Hero 15-Year-Old Football Player Killed After Shielding 3 Girls From A Hail Of Gunfire

The definition of “hero” from the Merriam-Webster Dictionary: a person who is admired for great or brave acts or fine qualities. Zaevion William Dobson sacrificed his own promising life in order to save others. The 15-year-old player at Fulton High School in Knoxville, Tennessee, died after being shot Thursday night in a senseless misfortune. Knoxville police said that Dobson was shielding “three girls from gunfire as several men went on a shooting spree.”

The shooting seems to be gang-related, after a woman named Lisa Perry, 46, was shot inside her apartment on Thursday evening, but is expected to survive. Her 23-year-old son, Brandon Perry, and “several other men then drove to the neighborhood where Dobson lived and “randomly fired multiple times.” Dobson saw the dire situation unfolding and courageously jumped in front of the bullets to save the three girls. However, the 15-year-old suffered fatal wounds from his act of valor. The three girls were unharmed thanks to the brave Dobson.

Brandon Perry had been shot after he crashed a car into an apartment, and he died from his injuries on Friday morning. The two other men who fled from the crash were arrested.

“These cowardly and senseless acts of violence must stop,” Knoxville Police Chief David Rausch said. “We should be preparing to celebrate the Christmas holiday, but now we have two men who are dead.”

Rausch gave a press conference about the tragedy, and got emotional speaking about Dobson’s ultimate sacrifice. “Unfortunately, they picked a random group of young men and women who were just hanging out and trying to prepare to celebrate the holiday,” Rausch said.

“He was really one of our success stories,” Knoxville Mayor Madeline Rogero praised Dobson. “Involved in sports, a mentee of one of our organizations in town. But still he falls victim to this.”

“Only a sophomore, but a very contagious young man who was very liked by his peers and his teachers,” Fulton High School football head coach Rob Black said about Dobson. “Going to be a tough time as we leave from here and go meet with our football players.

Zaevion William Dobson is the definition of hero.
