Former No. 1 NFL Draft Pick Says Eagles Should Bench Jalen Hurts For Marcus Mariota

Former No. 1 NFL Draft pick David Carr may have secured hot take of the year just before the deadline for entries closed on Tuesday.

Carr, when discussing the Philadelphia Eagles’ upcoming game against the Dallas Cowboys, suggested that the NFC leaders bench start quarterback Jalen Hurts for backup Marcus Mariota.

“Clearly, Jalen isn’t comfortable reading through a defense in a drop back pass scenario,” Carr said. “Some would say he’s not even good at it. And I think that when you look at this team, you have to have a serious conversation if you’re Philly, and you have to really say, ‘Is it better for us to play Marcus Mariota right now…”

Now, to be fair to Carr, he pinned the majority of Hurts’ “struggles” on his alleged knee injury.

“…If you’re Nick Sirianni this is the type of decision and conversation you have to have. If you have a big-picture mentality,” he continued. “And I think you can have that conversation honestly with Jalen and you if you sat him down. That’s all Jason talks about is the end result and getting to the Super Bowl and winning that thing. The best way we can do it. They didn’t run the football at all with him. Twice, that’s not it, man. That’s not the winning edge. Put Marcus in there. Win a couple games. Maybe have the number one seed still, you might have it.”

Carr said that not only would Hurts benefit long term, but that Mariota would help the team more right now.

“I’d say he’s probably better playing quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles. Right now, he would be more productive.”

Hurts has thrown for 2,995 yards, 19 t0uchdowns and 10 interceptions. He also has 430 yards rushing and 12 touchdowns. All while his team has a 10-2 records and Hurts is the third betting favorite for the NFL MVP.

But hey, maybe it’s Mariota SZN?
