If you thought things couldn’t get worse for Mike Norvell and the Florida State Seminoles following Monday’s loss to SMU in a game that was delayed for hours due to a power outage at legendary Doak Campbell Stadium, think again.
The Seminoles currently have the No. 30-ranked recruiting class in the nation according to On3, with 17 commits in total. One of their top commits is four-star athlete Za’Kari Johnson, who could play either wide receiver or defensive back in college.
Johnson committed to Florida State and Norvell back on July 14th. However, the Miami Carol City product recently attended Miami’s 77-7 blowout victory over Florida A&M, and his comments following the visit should send alarm bells ringing for the ‘Noles and their fans.
Za’Kari Johnson Wants To Play For Miami Over Florida State
In an interview with On3, Johnson said that his commitment to Norvell and company remained firm.
“(My commitment) stands good right now,” he said. “I need them to win, though. I need them to ball… I love Mike (Norvell). I hope he can stay. A lot of people say he might not stay. But I hope he can stay, so I can go there.”
However, his comments that followed told a much different story.
“I just want to see Miami football,” Johnson said. “Miami has always been my dream school. Being a kid from South Florida, I look up to all the greats. I’ve seen them ball. It motivates me.”

Texas A&M had been considered the leading threat to flip Johnson from Florida State. But now it appears that Miami has not only entered the fray, but they’re also Johnson’s “dream school.”
That has to be a tough statement to read if you’re a Seminoles fan.
