The South Carolina basketball team pulled its upset of the year, knocking off sixth-ranked Kentucky in Columbia. The Gamecocks put on a defensive show, holding the Wildcats to a season-low 62 points.

After the game, chaos.

Fans, largely students, celebrated to the fullest both in and outside the arena. They were spotted diving into a huge fountain near the venue entrance as a way of commemorating the incredible win.

And what a win it was.

According to ESPN Stats and Information, the 79-62 result represented the largest margin of victory over a top 10 foe in program history. It also landed South Carolina a second straight win over Kentucky after the Gamecocks took UK down in Rupp Arena last season.

John Calipari is now 0-2 against second-year coach Lamont Paris in SEC play, and he had the following to say after the contest.

β€œThey are the best defensive team in our league. That’s saying something.”

A sold-out crowd – which included Dawn Staley and Shane Beamer – saw that defensive prowess on full display, and they celebrated aptly by rushing the court.
