Things are bad in Denver with the Broncos right now. Historically so, in fact.

On Sunday, the Miami Dolphins hung 70 points on the Broncos’ helpless defense, making them the first NFL team in 57 years to reach the 70-point mark.

While the Broncos have been mightily struggling ever since they won the Super Bowl with Peyton Manning in 2015, losing in historic context likely hits much different, as evidenced by the reactions of offensive lineman Garett Bolles.

Speaking to the media after the game, Bolles went viral for sounding like a completely broken man while summing up his career with the franchise, which began in 2017.

“Tired of losing, man. I’ve been here for seven years and all I’ve done is lost,” Bolles told reporters after the 50-point loss in Miami to the Dolphins.

The Broncos drafted Bolles out of the University of Utah with the 20th pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. Since then, the Broncos have posted the following records: 5-11 (2017), 6-10 (2018), 7-9 (2019), 5-11 (2020), 7-10 (2021), and 5-12 (2022).

Thus, during the course of his seven-plus-year NFL career, Bolles has been involved in 35 wins and 63 losses.

Luckily for Bolles and the Broncos, next weekend they’ll be playing perhaps the only NFL team worse than them, as they’ll be heading to Chicago to take on Justin Fields and the equally putrid Bears, who are coming off a 41-10 loss to Kansas City Chiefs (in front of Taylor Swift, no less).

Despite it still being September, the Broncos’ chances of qualifying for the playoffs this year are all but cooked as they’ve fallen to the dreaded 0-3 record. Since the beginning of the Super Bowl era, just six teams have made the postseason after starting 0-3, with the most recent team being the 2018 Houston Texans.

According to reports in the league, Sean Payton is angling towards benching Russell Wilson, which perhaps explains his decision to leave the veteran QB in the game in the waning moments of their embarrassing 50-point loss to the Dolphins.
