Things clearly haven’t been quite right between New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers and star wide receiver Garrett Wilson. And according to reports, the relationship between the pair could be so fractured that Rodgers returning to the team could impact Wilson’s future with Gang Green.

With just one game remaining in a disastrous 2024 season that will see the franchise extend their playoff drought to 14 seasons (the longest active playoffless streak in the four major sports leagues),  the Jets are a team desperate for the offseason to begin.

It’s set to be a busy offseason for the Jets, who are in the market for a new head coach and general manager. And unless they try to find themselves a new quarterback, Garrett Wilson could be on his way out of town, too, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport.

“Can Wilson co-exist with Rodgers if the QB is back? Or is a better option to trade Wilson for a huge bounty? What those inside and outside the organization have noticed for much of the season was brought to light this past week: All is not well with Rodgers and Wilson. Wilson has not requested a trade, but if Rodgers is back, that is one of the options for how to proceed.” [via NFL]

In the blowout 40-14 loss to the Buffalo Bills, Wilson had seven catches for 66 yards and a touchdown, putting him at 97 catches for 1,053 yards and seven touchdowns with one game remaining in his third NFL season, which also made him just the fifth player to have 80 receptions and 1,000 yards in each of his first three seasons.

Aaron Rodgers, Wilson and the rest of the moribund Jets, currently slotted at the 6th overall pick in next spring’s NFL Draft, will play their final game of the 2024 season at home against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, January 5.
