The nation’s fastest recruit is narrowing down his top schools. Gatlin Bair, an athlete out of Idaho, has slimmed his recruitment list down to just five programs.

Bair, who’s also a track star for his high school team, is a member of the 2024 cycle. The college football world is eager to see where he winds up at the next level.

Bair is the unanimous choice as the top prospect in the state of Idaho. The four-star recruit is considered a top 100 player according to all three of the major recruiting outlets (On3, 24/7, ESPN).

According to his Twitter bio, Bair considers himself a wide receiver, but many believe his speed and athleticism could be best used on the defensive side of the ball.

Either way, he’s become a hot commodity on the recruiting trail. Obviously, that speed is what’s most tantalizing for potential suitors. Bair runs 100 meters in 10.18 seconds, which could make him dangerous as a deep threat or return man at the college level.

Gabe Brooks of 24/7 Sports had the following to say in his recruiting profile.

The 6-foot-2, 180-pound Bair possesses excellent on-field context along with a layered athletic profile, which includes scorching 100-meter and 200-meter times with excellent jumping numbers. Bair also gained reps in the return game. His athleticism and experience certainly fit at receiver, but he also possesses immense upside as a defensive projection as well.

Five schools received good news this week as he announced his final group on social media. Those programs consist of Boise State, Michigan, Nebraska, Oregon, and TCU.

Nebraska seems to be a leader in the clubhouse, though it would be hard to count out the instate Boise State Broncos. Bair also had positive things to say about Oregon, who boasts some of the top training facilities in the country. Then there’s Michigan and TCU, who faced off in the College Football Playoff last year.

Fans have been quick to comment on the recent top five announcement as they race to social media to post reactions.

One Nebraska fan wrote, “One of the fastest rising wideouts in the nation. Bair has been a priority for Nebraska for quite a while now and his blazing speed would make him a perfect fit.”

Boise supporters are hoping he stays close to home though. This Broncos fan wrote, “It should be reiterated that this would be THE biggest get in Bronco football history. Exciting months ahead…”

This fan noted his speed, saying, “He just beat [South Carolina signee] Nyckoles Harbor and everyone else at the Texas Relays despite being a year younger. Dude is fast fast.”

It will be fun to follow Gatlin Bair’s recruitment over the offseason. Whoever lands his commitment will get a talented addition.
