Cam Skattebo on why he didn't start for Giants

Cam Skattebo seems to be on the outs in New York.

On Sunday, fans noticed that Skattebo, the team’s starter for the past year, wouldn’t start.

Eventually, Skattebo, who was not ruled out with an injury, finished the game with zero carries in the team’s loss to the Saints.

After the game, Harbaugh insisted he didn’t bench Skattebo and that the running back getting no carries was “not by design.”

“It was not by design,” Harbaugh said. “I mean, all those guys were taking equal reps in the first half. We were trying to see who could make something happen, who could kinda get a hot hand and earn it. Nobody’s really taking the bull by the horns… It wasn’t by design for him not to carry the ball. It was just, when he was in there, we didn’t call any runs.”

Skattebo believes he was being punished for fumbling the ball in overtime vs. Washington last week.

“I got punished for what I did (from last week). I understand it so I gotta be ready when coach calls my name and that wasn’t today.”

“It’s hard, but I’ve made mistakes, and I got to own up to them.”
