Gilbert Arenas Claims Bol Bol Is The Key For The Suns Against The Timberwolves

The Phoenix Suns are staring down the barrel of a first-round playoff exit, as they trail the Minnesota Timberwolves, 2-0. But, former All-NBA guard  Gilbert Arenas thinks he has the tip that can save their season.

That tip, you ask? Play center Bol Bol more.

“Right now, with the talent that’s on the floor, and you look at this bench, there’s only one guy who can actually change the outcome of the series and that is Bol Bol, because of his skill level. His skill level is unmatched,” Arenas said.

That’s quite a take, Gilbert. In theory, Bol Bol is a great NBA player. In practice, not so much.

On an initial glimpse of his stats, the 7-foot-3 big man looks like he should be a very useful player. He’s pretty athletic and shot 61% from the field and 42% from three-point range this year.  With his size and length, you’re probably wondering why he isn’t a poor man’s Victor Wembanyama.

But, when you watch Bol Bol play, you see why he’s someone who only gets around 11 minutes a game and just six minutes total in the team’s two playoff games. He often gets lost on defense, is very turnover-prone, and isn’t a very good passer. To sum it up, despite the measurables and eye-popping skills, he’s not a winning basketball player.

I understand where Gilbert Arenas is coming from.  The Suns bench is awful and is getting killed by Minnesota’s bench. He is probably the most talented Suns player that isn’t getting a lot of minutes. And, his size definitely can make a difference. Plus, being down 2-0 means it’s time for desperate measures.

I just don’t think it’s going to work. The roster, as star-studded as it is, just doesn’t fit together in a championship way.

The two teams play game 3 back in Phoenix on Friday night.
