Deion Sanders and the University of Colorado received a commitment from Gage Goldberg on Sunday afternoon. He chose the Buffaloes over offers from Alabama, UCF, UTSA, Duke and San Diego.

The Class of 2024 college football recruit is the son of WWE Hall of Famer Bill Goldberg!

Gage is a 6-foot-0, 205-pound middle linebacker for Boerne Champion High School in Texas. Although he may not have the accolades of his father, who played defensive tackle for the Georgia Bulldogs in the late ’80s and spent time with the Rams, Falcons and Panthers, the heir to the Spear and Jackhammer throne is a bruiser just like his dad!

His commitment on Sunday serves as something of a full-circle reunion!

The elder Goldberg played alongside Sanders in Atlanta in the early 1990s. Now, more than 25 years later, his son is going to play for Coach Prime in Boulder.

That was ultimately the kicker in Gage’s decision, according to Buffs Beat of the Sports Illustrated network.

My dad’s advice was go to the program that stands out to you the most and the one you know that you will love. I already know at this moment that I will love Colorado and it will also be great to be learning from one of my dad’s best friends ever.

Gage is the the seventh addition to Colorado’s 2024 high school football recruiting class. He is the 12th addition to the defense overall, including the transfer portal, and will take preferred walk-on spot to play for the Buffaloes. The opportunity to play for a coach who knows what it takes to reach the National Football League was a big factor.

The main draw was that Colorado has an amazing coaching staff and obviously a great head coach that will help me excel in every way to become a better football player, and eventually get me to the next level.

Prior to his commitment, Gage was a dominant force on the Boerne defense during his senior season. He recorded 154 total tackles, with 7.5 for loss, and forced four fumbles with one sack, one forced safety and one blocked field goal.

Before heading out to suit up for Deion Sanders, Gage will finish out his high school career on the diamond. His athleticism, which trickles down from his father, also led him to be a very successful baseball player in the Lone Star State!
