After spending most of the offseason celebrating another NBA title, things recently took an unfortunate turn for the Golden State Warriors.

A video surfaced last week showing Draymond Green and Jordan Poole getting into an altercation that ended with Green punching Poole. Green has since issued an apology and been fined, but avoided a suspension.

This week seems to be going much better for Jordan Poole. The man that has been named the 3rd Splash Brother got some big news today. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Poole and the Warriors have agreed to a 4-year, $140 million dollar contract extension.

Jordan Poole agrees to 4-year, $140 million contract extension with Golden State Warriors

Poole had a breakout 3rd year in the league during the 2021-22 NBA season. He got a big bump in minutes and made the most of the opportunity, bringing his scoring average up to 18 points per game and added in 4 assists per game.

He gave the Warriors another reliable scoring threat on their way to winning a ring and now it appears they’ve decided he’s a scoring threat they want to keep around for a while.

Poole’s extension will mean that some changes are on the way for the Warriors, though.

The Warriors were already going to have some decisions to make after this season with Steph Curry and Kiay Thompson on high contracts. After this season, Andrew Wiggins and Draymond Green are both free agents and it was already going to be just about impossible to keep both, especially with Draymond’s contract expectations.

Poole adding more than $30 million per year to his salary is going to make it impossible to keep both.

This Poole extension was absolutely the right move for the Warriors as they try to figure out what their future looks like as Steph, Klay, and Draymond get older, but it’s also a move that is going to lead to some tough decisions for the defending champs.
