Good Good Golf CEO Matt Kendrick is speaking out after the company has been under fire over a social media ad.

On Thursday, Callaway Golf announced they were parting ways with Good Good over their controversial ad that depicts a man tackling a woman to stop her from using his driver.

“Over the past several days, we have listened and reflected deeply on the hurt and disappointment caused by the video we reposted,” Callaway said in a statement. “We heard from individuals who shared personal experiences related to violence against women, and their stories were powerful reminders that this issue touches the lives of far too many people.

“Unequivocally, violence against women is unacceptable and should never be trivialized, normalized, or used as entertainment.”

Amid the controversy, Kendrick sat down with David Rumsey of Front Office Sports and accused Callaway of signed ff on the ad before it aired. Kendrick admitted he didn’t see the ad himself before it was posted on social media.

:Our marketing team saw it. Callaway said they approved it, and that went through their marketing team, as well. So, both sides saw it. I don’t approve every social post that goes up—that doesn’t come across my desk. Just like it wouldn’t go across (Callaway CEO) Chip Brewer’s desk.”

“I was actually out of town, so I wasn’t in office when it came out. I didn’t see it initially when it went up, either. But my team informed me that they had pulled it down and then I saw it. And after I saw it, I was like, ‘this isn’t acceptable.’ I never saw before it went up—I’m just not monitoring all the time. But my team informed me what was going on and then I saw it and I said I understand why we’re pulling this down.”

Kendrick also revealed that the company had fired members of the marketing team that approved the ad.

In a social media post on Friday morning, Kendrick fired a shot at Callaway for backing out of their deal due to the controversy.
