Former Kansas Jayhawks guard Gradey Dick was drafted 13th overall by the Toronto Raptors. And while Victor Wembanyama beginning his NBA career was the focus on TV, Gradey Dick memes stole the show online.
The Gradey Dick memes came out strong when he showed up to the 2023 NBA Draft wearing a ruby red sparkling suit. It was an homage to Dorothy’s ruby red slippers in the Wizard of Oz.
Shortly thereafter, the Gradey Dick memes began exploding. He was oft compared to BJ from HBO’s The Righteous Gemstones. Then a truly fantastic TikTok from Gradey Dick hit Twitter and he was quickly winning the hearts of millions of NBA fans as someone with the energy of a theater kid that can ball.
