Coastal Carolina star quarterback Grayson McCall left Saturday’s game against Arkansas State in an ambulance after a scary late hit that left him down on the turf.

The play came in the second half of the contest as McCall was attempting to slide at the end of a play.

Red Wolves safety Trevian Thomas laid the hit on McCall. And while he was penalized for the hit, Thomas was not ejected from the ballgame.

Thankfully, McCall was conscious as he was loaded onto a backboard and into the ambulance. He offered fans a thumbs up as he was taken off the field.

The Chanticleers senior rose to prominence as a redshirt freshman in the 2020 season. He threw for 2,488 yards, 26 touchdowns and just three interceptions as Coastal Carolina went 11-1 and won its first Sun Belt championship.

McCall then backed that up in the following two seasons, combining for 5,573 yards, 51 touchdowns and just five interceptions.

He then announced his intent to transfer from Coastal for his final season after head coach Jamey Chadwell left for Liberty, but ultimately opted against that decision.

Hopefully, the ambulance was just a matter of precaution and McCall is able to return to the field and complete what has undoubtedly been a legendary careers for the Chanticleers.
