A number of college football analysts have high expectations for the Texas Longhorns, but maybe none more than Greg McElroy. The former Alabama signal caller expects double digit wins in 2023.

This comes despite the fact that the Longhorns have achieved the feat just once since 2010. Should things unfold how McElroy expects, Texas should find itself in the College Football Playoff come postseason.

While speaking on his Always College Football podcast Tuesday, he said that the floor for the Longhorns is 10 wins. He predicts that they’ll win one more game, though, to finish the year at 11-1.

Not surprisingly, he has the team’s only loss coming on the road to his alma mater. Here’s how he sees the schedule playing out.

After that Week 2 loss to the Crimson Tide, McElroy has Texas going on a 10-game winning streak to end the year. That would include wins over Oklahoma, national runner-up TCU, and defending Big XII champ Kansas State.

“The Texas Longhorns come in at 9.5 [wins according to Vegas], I’m taking the over,” McElroy stated. “They lost five games last year, all by one score.”

The Alabama grad expects the Horns to reverse that bad luck in 2023 and win the Big XII in their final year in the conference. Not everyone on social media is convinced, though.

“Same s—, different year. Talent has never been the issue there,” one fan wrote.

“Overrated,” said another.

But while the Texas haters were out in full force, it was actually the Longhorns’ supporters that seemed worried most with the lofty expectations.

Should the Longhorns take that leap, they’ll have a ton of momentum as they transition into the SEC. We’ll see if Texas can prove Greg McElroy right in 2023.
