Gus Johnson Goes Scorched Earth On Nebraska Quarterback Jeff Sims After Awful Turnovers

The Nebraska Cornhuskers are not a very good football team.

In fact, the Nebraska Cornhuskers have not been a very good football for a long while now.

But where there is hope, fans will always follow.

And new head coach Matt Rhule brought with him plenty of hope.

Sure, Rhule’s stint with Carolina Panthers was an abject disaster. But it’s hard to argue with his college resume. He took an otherwise mediocre Temple program to back-to-back 10-win seasons.

Rhule then took over a Baylor program on the back of crippling sanctions and within three seasons let the Bears to a 10-3 record and a spot in the Sugar Bowl.

So it’s easy to see why Huskers fans would be all-in.

But the Nebraska roster also needed work. A lot of work.

The Huskers went just 4-8 a year ago and haven’t made a bowl game since 2016.

And so Rhule went to work, using the transfer portal to both purge and replenish the Nebraska roster. One of the new introduction was quarterback Jeff Sims, who spent the first three years of his college career at Georgia Tech.

Sims struggled in his debut for the Huskers, going just 11-of-19 for 114 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions in a loss to Minnesota.

And game two hasn’t been much better.

Sims was brutal in the opening half against Colorado, turning the ball over three times as Nebraska was shutout by the Buffs.

Just prior to the third turnover, a brutal interception, legendary commentator Gus Johnson laid into the signal caller.

“I don’t know, Matt Rhule may have to find somebody else to play quarterback for (Nebraska), because [Jeff] Sims is costing his team games.”

Fans couldn’t help but laugh.

Things are tough for Nebraska fans these days. But they may be even worse for Jeff Sims.
