Gus Johnson is the most polarizing broadcast announcer in college football. Some people consider his excitable antics to be a positive addition to Saturdays in the fall. Others think that he is annoying.

There is no one in the middle. There is no “he’s okay.”

It’s love or hate, and social media was split down the middle during Ohio State’s game against Penn State. Gus Johnson and Joel Klatt were on the call.

Viewers at home immediately began to split down the middle.

Especially as Johnson started to refer to Marvin Harrison Jr. as “Maserati Marv.” The 56-year-old play-by-play announcer called Harrison by his new nickname at least six times during the first quarter.

At least.

Gus Johnson divided the nation.

“Gus Johnson is going to drive me insane today,” chimed esteemed BroBible writer Clay Sauertig.

“Take a shot every time Gus Johnson gets to call him Maserati Marv,” joked Dylan Sanders.

“Gus Johnson and the Fox Big Noon broadcast team trying to create ‘Maserati Marv’ as a nickname for Marvin Harrison Jr out of absolutely nowhere,” said Evan Romano, with a meme from Mean Girls.

“I’m fully out on Gus if I have to hear him say ‘Maserati Marv’ for the next three hours,” added Sully.

“Ok, Gus has called Marvin Harrison ‘Maserati’ twice already. Time for the mute button,” opined Adam Gorney.

“The ‘Maserati Marv’ nickname that guys Johnson has assigned to Marvin Harrison Jr. is already grating on my ears,” said Black Shoe Diaries.

“How can I hear the game but not Gus,” asked Carolyn Lasky.

On the flip side of things, there were a lot of people who were THRILLED to have Johnson on the call.

“Is Gus the best commentator of all of sports?? He just got me FIRED UP at the beginning of this Penn State/Ohio State game,” wondered Yves Batoba.

“Gus’s nickname for Marvin Harrison Jr. should be permanent,” declared Bryan Fischer.

“I don’t feel like ppl talk about Gus enough. I love how he calls game for college football and basketball,” thinks The Jenbry Man.

“Gus will call Marvin Harrison Jr. a ‘Maserati’ 1 million times today & it will fire me up every single time,” remarked Kevin Zuppe.

“Got damn nation treasure,” said Jules.

“I f—— love Gus,” added Greenburg.

Hmm…… Where do you stand on things?

Do we love Gus Johnson or hate Gus Johnson?!
