A man recently ran into WNBA star Kelsey Plum on the streets of Los Angeles, had no idea who she was, and the entire interaction was fantastic. Of course, we know this because he filmed the entire thing and shared it on TikTok.
Plum, a three-time WNBA All-Star, two-time Olympic gold medalist and two-time WNBA champion, was part of a three-team trade between the Los Angeles Sparks, Las Vegas Aces and Seattle Storm in February that saw her move to La La Land. Which probably explains why the guy just randomly ran into her on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills.
“Quick question for you. How are you doing?” the man who goes by the handle @jackbanana on TikTok, asked Kelsey Plum as he walked up to her. “I saw people taking photos with you. Are you famous?”
“No,” Plum replies with a grin.
“What’s your name?” he then asked her.
“I’m not famous. I like your outfit though,” Plum answered.
“I don’t want to miss an opportunity when I meet people,” he then told her while handing her his phone. “It only happens once, you know?”
Kelsey Plum then appears to show the man her Instagram account on his phone.
“God dang it! Okay! Yeah, you are famous,” he said to her after looking at some photos. “That’s cool. I don’t even know what to ask you.”
“Don’t even worry,” Plum replied. “You don’t have to ask anything. Just hang out with us until our Uber comes.”
The man then asked Kelsey Plum what her passion is other than playing basketball.
“My passion is basketball, really,” the WNBA star responded. “And I like my friends and my family. Lowkey, and food.”
Then he asked her how she stays grounded.
“How do I stay grounded? I talk to people in the street,” Plum replied. “You know what I’m saying? I have faith. I think God keeps you grounded. “Also, too, this is all great, but at the end of the day I got to treat people with respect.”
“You seem like a very cool person,” he then told her, to which she replied, “You seem cool too.”
At the very end, as he was leaving, he mentioned texting her, which had several people wondering what that was all about in the comments.

Mostly though, people were just impressed with how down-to-earth Kelsey Plum seemed.
“She just went all the way up in aura,” one fan commented.
“Probably one of the coolest ‘celebrity’ interactions I’ve seen,” someone else wrote.
“This made me want a Kelsey Plum jersey. Been a fan. This just solidified it,” another person commented.
“Never really paid attention to WNBA, but I’ve learned more about her in your 2 min engagement than her entire career,” someone else shared. “She seems really genuine too.”
