The Houston Texans Have Changed Their Mind At Quarterback Again After Just 2 Weeks

Ahead of their Week 12 matchup against the Miami Dolphins, the Houston Texans made the surprising decision to bench Davis Mills in favor of Kyle Allen.

That decision hasn’t worked out well for them.

The Texans weren’t competitive in that matchup against the Dolphins, falling behind 30-0 before they scored a couple of touchdowns in the second half to make the score look better.

Their second game with Allen under center was a disaster. The Texans played the Cleveland Browns in their first game with Deshaun Watson at quarterback and lost despite Watson showing some clear rust in his first start since 2020.

The game opened with Allen throwing an interception, the first of a few turnovers in the game. He also had a fumble that was returned for a touchdown and threw a pick-6 that helped the Browns earn a 27-14 win despite their offense not scoring a touchdown in the game.

That brutal performance appears to have inspired the Texans to make another change at the position.

Texans head coach Lovie Smith announced today that the team would be switching back to Davis Mills as their starter for their Week 14 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys.

Making the switch to Allen never really made sense in the first place. Allen hadn’t really shown much in his career that would lead the Texans to believe he would be an upgrade over Mills.

Meanwhile, Mills at least showed some promise as a rookie despite having very little to work with. At worst, Mills should at least be a decent placeholder for whoever the Texans take in the first round of next year’s draft.

Now it looks like the starting job will be his until whoever that QB ends up being is ready to take over for the Texans.
