Considering the fact that at no point did Saturday Night Live promote them being on the show, the appearances of both Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce on this past weekend’s show came as quite a shock.

It turns out that the reason SNL didn’t promote the appearance of the world’s most talked about couple is that no one knew they were coming.

According to a report Variety on Monday, the Saturday Night Live production team only found out Swift and Kelce were going to be there mere minutes before the show began.

“No one knew they were coming, and they contacted a few minutes before arrival at air time,” one source told Variety.

When they found out, and knowing that the first sketch of the evening was going to center around a parody of Fox NFL Sunday talking about Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce, they asked the Chiefs tight end if he wanted to participate.

“The second [Kelce] walked in, they mentioned the sketch and he said he was happy to join,” an insider told Variety. “They were happy to jump into some parts of the show when asked.”

Later in the show, Taylor Swift also made a surprise, albeit incredibly brief appearance on the show when she introduced the second song of the night by the show’s musical guest and her close friend, Ice Spice.

“The audience was shocked when both appeared separately,” said an insider.

Despite not appearing on stage at the end of the show, Pete Davidson did thank the couple for being there.

Swift and Kelce did, however, join the SNL cast and crew at the show’s afterparty at Catch Steak New York where they reportedly packed on the PDA.

The latest rumors about the couple claim that Swift bought a suite at Arrowhead Stadium for the rest of the season and that they may be looking to buy a home together in Kansas City.
