Hunter Dickinson is going viral for comments made about a Big Ten rival. The star center called out the Wisconsin basketball team for being “scumbags” in a recent interview.

Dickinson’s remarks came while he made an appearance on the Roundball Podcast, and they’ve caused quite the stir on social media.

Here’s what he had to say when asked about his league foe.

“Wisconsin, I mean they’re just scumbags… Nothing I can say about Wisconsin is going to fire up the matchup even more, but it is what it is. They’re scumbags.”

While he does go on to note that “the feeling could not be any more mutual,” he’s taking heat for the jab from college basketball fans online. Most believe it’s the pot calling the kettle black.

Those fans took to Twitter to quickly post reactions to the exchange.

One person wrote, “I’m sorry this guy is trying way too hard to be the bad guy in college basketball.” Another asked, “Wasn’t Hunter Dickinson being compared to Grayson Allen just last month?”

It’s certainly interesting commentary coming from a player that was recently criticized for playing “dirty” in a contest with Virginia. And calling out a team for being scummy rings hollow when your head coach was suspended for slapping a Wisconsin staffer just last year.

But it shouldn’t come as a surprise considering Hunter Dickinson’s past. The big man also threw vicious jabs at archrival Michigan State last December as he makes his rounds through the Big Ten.

While Dickinson’s comments are causing a stir, his play on the court hasn’t missed a beat. The center was named Big Ten Player of the Week on Tuesday for an outstanding performance against Maryland (32 pts, 12 rebs), and he’s experiencing his best college season to date.

He’ll hope to keep the train rolling as conference play gets into full swing. Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait until February to see the Wolverines face the Badgers on the court.
