After finding out that USC quarterback Caleb Williams refused to speak to the media following the Trojans’ 38-20 loss to UCLA, NFL reporter Ian Rapoport, for whatever reason, thought of Cincinnati Bengals QB Joe Burrow.

In a tweet that’s gone viral for its strangeness, Rapoport made a comparison between 26-year-old 4th-year NFL QB Joe Burrow and 22-year-old college kid Caleb Williams, suggesting that the latter does not possess the professionalism of the former.

“Joe Burrow learned his season was over on Friday, understood his responsibility, and went out and held a news conference. The job of a QB and face of the franchise,” Rapoport tweeted on Saturday.

Rapoport was swiftly crushed for the tweet, as many of the quote tweets and replies are calling him out for making the comparison.

It’s certainly a strange connection for Rapoport to make considering that Burrow’s press conference was so he could address his personal injury, while Williams is one of many players on the USC football team that lost to the UCLA Bruins on Saturday.

Despite some of the struggles of Williams and USC this season — they lost five of their last six games — the former University of Oklahoma Sooner is expected to be the first quarterback selected in next year’s NFL Draft.

Currently, the Chicago Bears — as a result of their trade with the Carolina Panthers — own the #1 pick in the draft. The Bears have Justin Fields, though, so their selection of Willaims is far from a sure thing.

At #2 is currently the Arizona Cardinals, who have former #1 overall pick Kyler Murray on their roster. Things start to get interesting from there, though, as the Patriots — who are certainly in the market for a QB — are picking third, while the New York Giants are set to pick fifth.

During the 2023 season, Williams completed 68% of his passes for 3,633 yards, 30 touchowns, and 5 interceptions.
