As everyone expected, the Indiana Fever picked Iowa star Caitlin Clark with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft. That expectation didn’t temper the celebration at the team’s watch party on Monday night.

Fever players went crazy in Gainbridge Fieldhouse after hearing Clark’s name called, along with 17,000 screaming fans. Clearly, they’re excited to have the sport’s most talked about player on the roster.

As they should be!

Caitlin Clark is college basketball’s all-time leading scorer, racking up a ridiculous 3,951 across four seasons with the Hawkeyes while leading her program to a pair of national title appearances.

Now, it’s onto the next step in her career – the WNBA.

Given that insane production at the NCAA level, hearing her name called first on draft night was all but guaranteed. The anticipation had everyone around the franchise excited.

Thousands of fans showed up to watch that first pick, even if they knew what the final result would be.

There was little discussion in the ‘War Room’ surrounding that decision, and when all was said and done, Clark was the choice.

Despite everyone having an idea of how the selection process would play out, the building erupted when Caitlin Clark’s name was called.

And it wasn’t just the fans!

Teammates Erica Wheeler, Maya Caldwell and Lexie Hull lost it when the pick was made.

What’s not to be excited about??

The Fever are expected to sign Caitlin Clark to a four-year deal worth $338K.

Spotrac broke the details of that deal down.

2024: $76,535
2025: $78,066
2026: $85,873
2027: $97,582 (optional)

Of course, that number doesn’t include any sponsorship deals she’ll land outside of that income. Judging by her 2023-24 NIL Valuation, which topped women’s college basketball last year, she’ll have plenty of opportunities to bankroll marketing partnerships in the WNBA.

She’s already started with an all-Prada getup on the orange carpet Monday night!

Clark began providing positive exposure to her new team and league before even being selected. That should only continue as she begins her professional career.
