Indiana and Howard agreed not to play the entire fourth quarter of Saturday’s college football game in Bloomington. The mutual decision to remove five minutes from the game clock created a sports betting controversy.
Hoosiers bettors were robbed of a complete opportunity to cover the spread.
Because the college football game was ruled as complete, the bets are considered final. What would’ve happened if they played the rest of the fourth quarter? We will never know! Bad beat.
Indiana and Howard agreed not to play the full fourth quarter.
It did not take long for Saturday’s game to get out of hand. The reigning national champions scored 41 points in the first half. The visiting Bison did not even score a field goal. And the onslaught kept coming.
The Hoosiers added a pair of touchdowns during the four quarter. Backup quarterback Grant Wilson completed his only two pass attempts for 54 yards and two touchdowns. Not a bad day at the office!
From there, Indiana went to Tyler Cherry as the third-stringer. Only then did the scoring stop.
Howard finished with less than 100 yards of total offense and only four first downs. It was a complete and total blowout but it actually could’ve been worse.
Both head coaches agreed to play only 10 minutes during the fourth quarter instead of the typical 15. The 60-minute football game lasted only 55 minutes before it went final. Indiana defeated Howard 55-0. The final score will be important later.
College football bettors did not cover the spread.
Most major sportsbooks listed Indiana as 56.5-point favorites over Howard on Saturday. Some sportsbooks put the number at 58.5. The Over/Under was set at 65.5 total points scored.
The Hoosiers did not cover the spread. They only won by 55 points after failing to score during the fourth quarter. The final score went ‘Under’ the expected total. Sports bettors who took Indiana -56.5 or O65.5 lost money.
However, they did not get the full opportunity to cover. The Hoosiers were so dominant against the Bison that their third-string offense might’ve found the end zone if they had an extra five minutes to do so. Curt Cignetti loves to run up the score.
