The back-to-back national runner-up Iowa Women’s basketball team was pretty reliant on the offensive exploits of now-departed superstar guard Caitlin Clark. Granted, when it’s the most gifted offensive player in the history of women’s college basketball, that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

But, she’s moved on to the WNBA, and they need someone in the backcourt to carry the scoring and playmaking load and team with breakout forward Hannah Stuelke. They found that player in Villanova transfer Lucy Olsen.

There’s no equal replacement to Caitlin Clark, the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer who also led the country in assists. But, Olsen is pretty much as good as it gets.

Olsen was the nation’s third-leading scorer last year at Villanova, trailing only Caitlin Clark and USC freshman sensation Juju Watkins. The true junior averaged 23.3 points per game on 43.8% shooting from the floor and 29.4% from three. Iowa would like those numbers to increase, but she had to take a lot of tough shots due to being Villanova’s best scoring option by far.

Iowa Women’s Basketball will definitely be trying to stay relevant after they became America’s Team the last two years. Caitlin Clark drew huge viewing audiences that set records for women’s basketball. Their National Championship Game loss to South Carolina was watched by nearly 19 million viewers.
