The LeBron James vs Michael Jordan debate has been rekindled during quarantine after ESPN aired the first two episodes of their documentary about the 97-98 Chicago Bulls and one of Jordan’s former rivals is questioning his GOAT status.
Earlier this week, former Detroit Pistons ‘bad boy” Isiah Thomas spoke with Fox Sports’ Chris Broussard and said that Jordan might not be considered the GOAT if LeBron and Kevin Durant played in the 80s.
“What KD and LeBron are doing, if you put them back in the era of 80s with their talent, athleticism and skill… Who’s the GOAT?”

“I think this generation [of players] is not getting enough credit for what they’re doing,”. “Because the athletes that are in this generation are so far superior than what was in my generation. [When we were playing], Jordan was the best athlete that we had ever seen, [but] from an athletic standpoint, there are like 10 or 11 guys in the NBA right now with Jordan’s athleticism. We didn’t have that back then. With what [Kevin Durant] and LeBron are doing, if you put them back in the era of the ’80s, with their talent, their athleticism and their skill, who’s the GOAT?”
Thomas has been vocal recently about how he thinks LeBron is a better player than Jordan.

Isiah’s comments will surely ruffle some feathers but he’s not wrong about his assertion about LeBron James and Kevin Durant being absolutely unstoppable if they had played in the 80s.
