You Can FINALLY Buy A Grilled Cheese Filled With Nerds Gummy Clusters At An NHL Game Thanks To The Islanders

Sports teams have gotten increasingly creative with the food they use to lure fans to the concession stands. However, the Islanders may have gone a bit too far with a grilled cheese that’s filled with candy that seemingly has no business being inside a grilled cheese.

MLB teams are largely credited with normalizing the sale of food and drinks within the confines of sporting venues thanks to the entrepreneurs who started to peddle fairly pedestrian fare like hot dogs, peanuts, and beer at baseball stadiums toward the end of the 19th century.

It can be a pretty lucrative form of revenue for the teams and vendors that essentially have a monopoly on consumables, and many fans bemoan the prices they’re usually forced to stomach if they want something to snack or sip on while watching a game in person.

Over the past couple of decades, teams have attempted to set themselves apart by offering elevated and innovative food options that are primarily designed to get fans to part with their hard-earned money. However, they can also earn some free publicity by thinking outside of the box and coming up with items that are seemingly designed to be shared on social media.

There are plenty of examples I could cite, and we’ve been treated to our newest one courtesy of the Islanders.

The Islanders are selling a grilled cheese filled with Nerds Gummy Clusters at UBS Arena this season

Last year, the Sharks were responsible for one of the more head-turning items available for purchase at an NHL game after debuting a bucket of popcorn mixed with Pop-Tarts, candy, and freeze-dried strawberries,

However, San Jose has been firmly outdone courtesy of what a team on the opposite side of the country has whipped up for the 2025-26 campaign.

On Wednesday, UBS Arena announced some of the new items that Delaware North dreamed up for Islanders games this season, including a Burrata Boat, Bodega Burger, and Hot Honey Pork Rinds.

However, there was one that was brought to my attention courtesy of Darren Rovell that stood out more than any other: a Nerds Gummy Cluster Brie Grilled Cheese.

The sandwich is pretty self-explanatory, as it features brie and the candy in question sandwiched between a couple of slices of sourdough bread (I also know there’s a sizable contingent of people online who can’t resist the urge to say, “Akshually, that’s a Nerds Gummy Cluster melt,” but I feel like there are more important things to focus on here).

I can see the grilled cheese working in theory, as you’ve got a classic sweet and savory combo in a sandwich that will treat you to a jam analog when the gummy part of the cluster presumably melts during the cooking process.

The Nerds aspect is obviously the biggest wild card, but I can only assume the people responsible for creating it felt the sour tanginess worked well enough to justify rolling it out to the masses.

There’s at least one expert who’s asserted it does, in fact, work, as a Cleveland-based cheesemonger named Madelyn Varela has previously given the combo her seal of approval.

As if that wasn’t enough, the Islanders are also selling a deep-fried Uncrustable topped with pulled pork because sure, why not?

It’s currently unclear how much the grilled cheese will cost, but if you want to get your hands on one, they’ll be available at a stand located behind Section 220.
