Israel Adesanya finally overcoming Alex Pereira is enough of a story that creates a legacy for any MMA fighter.

However, it appears the middleweight champion dealt with a rather serious knee injury leading up to UFC 287.

Adesanya shared that he suffered an MCL tear during training on his YouTube channel. He provides commentary while the video shows the exact moment the injury concurred.

It looked a bit nasty in the heat of the moment. However, it clearly wasn’t serious enough for Israel Adasanya to pull out of the fight.

Regardless, it makes his victory at UFC 287 just that much more impressive. Overcoming the obstacle that is Alex Pereira all while fighting on a hurt knee is no easy feat.

Especially considering most people are down and out with a torn MCL. But Israel Adesanya wasn’t going to let an injury stop him from reclaiming the middleweight belt.

With that said, it’s likely the champ takes it easy for a little bit until his knee is back to full health. If that’s the case, then it might be a while before we see Adesanya in the Octagon again.

Even so, it sounds like Dana White already has Adesanya’s next fight planned out. Here is the UFC president announcing Izzy’s next opponent.

Robert Whittaker is an absolute machine who has struggled against Israel Adesanya in the past. Meanwhile, Dricus Du Plessis is a rising star who Adesanya subtly called out after UFC 287.

Hopefully, the champ can get healthy as soon as possible, because we’re ready to watch him fight both Whittaker and Du Plessis.
