Are you a male? Do you have any collegiate eligibility left? Can you dribble a basketball? Well, now is your time to shine!

Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis is a public collaborative university between Indiana University and Purdue University, and its men’s basketball team is holding open tryouts. The Jaguars posted their announcement on Monday afternoon and are now open for applications.

However, before you send over an email or put in your transfer papers, beware — IUPUI is very, very bad this season.

After losing by 17 to 6-17 Robert Morris on Saturday, the Jaguars fell to 2-19 on the year. Their first win during the 2021/22 season came against Division-III school Spalding University, a private Roman Catholic school with an total undergraduate enrollment of 1,305. They also won a game against USCAA independent East/West University.

As for the other 19 games, only six of the losses came by single-digits.

In fact, IUPUI’s struggles is probably why the team is holding tryouts. The team did not explain why it is holding the tryouts. It could be because of injuries, opt-outs and transfers. It could be because of COVID-19 issues within the program.

It could also be because they are looking for something new. Perhaps first-year head coach Matt Crenshaw just can’t take it anymore. He needs new bodies. He needs fresh faces. Who knows.

Regardless of the reason, IUPUI is offering the chance to walk-on to all students who are good enough. They must also have sickle cell results, a recent physical, health insurance and medical paperwork. Seems reasonable.

IUPUI has seven games left this year before the the Horizon League Tournament. If you are a fan of college sports, you will be rooting for the Jaguars to field a starting lineup of players who were not on the team as of February 7th and for them to win the Horizon League Tournament, enter March Madness as a 16-seed and for them to upset the No. 1 seed. We are all IUPUI fans.
