One of the best pieces of advice a casual golfer will ever get is “You’re not good enough to get mad about playing poorly.” However, that doesn’t stop many people who play the game (and plenty of other sports) recreationally from taking things a bit too seriously.

That reality is obvious to anyone who’s ever had the pleasure of playing a pickup basketball game with a dude wearing a headband and a compression sleeve who refuses to let his hoop dreams die. Those types of tryhards may know no one will really care about what transpired on the court when everything is said and done, but they still have a tendency to get way too invested in the final result.

It would also appear the best basketball players in the world aren’t immune from falling victim to those kinds of scenarios based on a recent lawsuit involving Memphis Grizzlies superstar Ja Morant.

According to TMZ, the high-flying guard has been sued in Shelby County court over an incident that allegedly transpired at his home in Eads, Tennessee last July. The plaintiff in the case is an unnamed 17-year-old who claims he was playing pickup with Morant when he inadvertently hit him in the head with a basketball and said the former Rookie of the Year reacted by angrily approaching him before punching him in the face.

The outlet obtained a police report that says Morant confirmed he got physical with the accuser but claimed he was acting in self-defense after the teenager (who reportedly threatened to burn down his house while being removed from the property) attempted to instigate a fight.

It’s worth noting law enforcement conducted an investigation before referring the potential assault to a district attorney who declined to press charges, so the case in question is entirely a civil matter.
